UPDATE: If you are unable to support the College Ministry by hiring students for a day’s work, you may also donate directly to the College Ministry Support Fund by sending a check to Mars Hill Church (1401 NW Leary Way Seattle, WA 98107) - Be sure to write “College Support Fund” on the memo.

Working on the yard?
Spring cleaning?
Need help moving?
Time to paint the living room?
Odd job long overdue?

For $350, you can hire 2 college students to perform an entire day of manual labor (odd jobs & office work included). You provide the job, location, and tools to get it done, we’ll provide the hands and feet.

What is the College Advance?
The College Advance to Warm Beach this October is an exciting and key event in the beginning of the College Ministry at Mars Hill Church. We hope to bring upwards of 150 students from Seattle to Warm Beach for this event – not only to get away, meet new people, and socialize – but to get an opportunity to share the Gospel with those who may otherwise be without hearing for the entirety of their college career.

Why $350?
The difference between $49 and $99 for a college student is the difference between attending the Fall College Advance and not attending. You have the opportunity to support subsidizing the cost to $49 from $99 for seven students with your donation – and it’s really not that much more than the going rate for a full day of work from two people!

How do I sign up?
E-mail Jamie (jamie.califf@marshillchurch.org). Include a general overview of the work to be performed, the location, and a few preferred days to get the job done. Jamie will contact you with any questions right away. As soon as we’ve identified 2 students that match appropriately to the job you want completed, she’ll finalize a date and time. It’s that simple!

For so many years, I have asked myself, “God, why have you made me this way?”

Just like many other teenagers, I have hated my hair, my skin, my fingers, my fingernails, my hands, my nose, my ears, my butt, my stomach, etc. But more than just a laundry list of annoyances, and more than you ever needed to know about me, these are each things that I haven’t left to God’s control.

Going through the awkward teen years was bad enough, but at 22, I still feel like I haven’t grown out of them. I realize that there is such a thing as too much self-confidence, but regardless of how much I could possibly dislike the way I look, I am still an image bearer of God.

The fact of the matter is that God didn’t just create us as a whole, but He picked out each and every atom in your body. (more…)

God is triune, Father, Son, and Spirit. Therefore, as His image bearers, we want and need Community in order to reflect Him to the world. Jesus even says that the world will know about His love through our unity (John 17:23).

What are some words that come to mind when you think of Christian Community? I have both positive and negative ones:

Negative: Hypocritical, judgmental, gossipy, awkward, fake, forced, stagnant, draining…

Positive: Authentic, transformational, encouraging, transparent, real, helpful, refreshing…

These terms may seem separate, but in my experience, in Gospel Community they seem to happen all at the same time.
Who hasn’t been a hypocrite, or judgmental, a gossip, or fake? I know I have been, and it’s in Community that these things really come to light. (more…)

Last night Pastor Bubba and I had the privilege of baptizing five dudes from the College Ministry. After Pastor Bubba shared the gospel, each guy gave their testimony. It was powerful.

Each of their stories made me praise Jesus for His goodness. He drew each of the men to himself in different ways, but the amazing grace of the cross was so clear in each of their stories.

I have come to realize that being apart of someone’s baptism is probably the second best part of my job, just behind seeing people meet and be transformed by Jesus.

Thank you to all the volunteers that made the night come together in amazing fashion with good food and friends!

Come and support these students in this life-changing experience at Matthews Beach Park on Lake Washington.
The crowd, dressed in Rainbow sandals, J. Crew shorts, and Polo tees, was over one hundred strong. The flavor was that of just about any Christian student gathering across the south: The leaders roll into an empty auditorium an hour or two before the start of the service; A temporary stage is rolled out and assembled; the sound system is installed, drums put together, guitar on stage, microphones in hand, and a sound check begins; the music team practices their worship songs. In the back of the auditorium, a prayer room is set up; in the lobby, a merchandise table. As people start to trickle into the lobby, the leadership team prays, checks off any last-minute tasks, and finally opens the doors to unleash the crowd. (more…)

But when we think about Missionaries, Jesus should be the first thing that comes to mind. Jesus is the Missionary God, sent to earth as a Missionary (John 1: 14; 20:21). Therefore, a Disciple of Jesus is a Missionary, sent as He was sent.

The College Ministry wants to make disciples that Worship Jesus out of their identity in Him.When people say the word “worship,” I sometimes think in terms of music and production. I think of the weird shows on TV called “Praiseathons” or stuff like that. Not to knock on “Praiseathons,” but singing is not the only way we Worship Jesus. The way we think about Worship really matters.

So if I were to say “I really like the worship” at so and so church, I’m really isolating the word “worship” to something that happens on Sunday. When in fact, Worship is something we do 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

So the question is, what are we Worshiping and how?
